A few years ago, I ordered a dozen “Cafe au Lait” tubers from a supplier. Only 1 turned out to be a true “Cafe au Lait”. Most of the other tubers produced blooms that looked similar to a “Cafe au Lait”, but less than 1/2 to 1/3 of the size.

We started calling them “Cafe au Lait Mini” (although we don’t know what they are actually called). Local florists LOVE using these in their design work because they are easier to work with than the giant “Cafes” and look gorgeous with so many color schemes.

Blooms range from pure cream, to pale pink, to pink with streaks of deep rose.

Even though I don’t know their true name, I’m sharing them this year because they are excellent bloom AND tuber producers. They are easiest tubers to divide out of the 100+ varieties we grow.

(It is not a true “Cafe au Lait”. I’ve planted rows of “CAL” and “CAF Mini” side by side and they are vastly different in their size and growth habit and tuber production)
